ArcGIS Pro for Desktop 10.2 is the latest release of ArcGIS tools. It brings numerous new features and improvements to our desktop suite, including an enhanced geodatabase experience, improved workflows for mapbuilding, spatial analysis capabilities, and easier-to-use editing tools. What's great about this release is that you don't need to be a pro to use it—the user interface has been streamlined with many improvements too complex for expert users but still empowering for beginners. This release also improves the performance of applications run on high-powered desktop systems by running multiple cores without sacrificing speed or introducing bottlenecks in processing or display functions. The new geodatabase experience has many enhancements too difficult to list in a few paragraphs. We've expanded the capabilities of an existing geodatabase that is already used by all ArcGIS users to allow it to be used with 10.2, along with supporting both 10.1 and 10.2 so there's no need to upgrade the underlying database to use all its great-new extra features in data management or map building tools. This new geodatabase is based on the SQLite database engine, which greatly simplifies database administration compared to using SQL Server. There’s a number of workflow improvements for building maps using the new basemap gallery. This includes the basemaps themselves, which have been updated to include new USGS topographic maps and many other new basemaps from openwaters.org, plus improved handling and editing of symbology and layers. The only major geoprocessing tool that hasn't got a user interface improvement is network analysis, which hasn’t changed since ArcGIS Pro 1.0 was released in November 2015. There have been a lot of performance enhancements to the software in 10.2, including the ability to work in multiple processes for a better experience when running a computer with a high-powered CPU. These changes will allow users to see ArcGIS Pro run in real time when they have 8 or more cores in their computer, but without sacrificing display speed or performance when using data that would normally be slow to load and process. The online repository for sharing and publishing maps is undergoing improvements too, with annotations and layers that can be edited after they've been published. ArcGIS Pro is a desktop application that provides user-friendly access to ArcGIS tools, allowing the creation and sharing of maps and 3D views using a modern, streamlined interface. It supports raster, vector, and geospatial analytics, along with production of maps for print or web applications. A new free version of ArcGIS for Desktop is also available. This includes all the functionality of the full version but imposes some limits on map usage (you can't use your app within your organisation or charge people to use it), data storage (no more than 100MB) and printing (no more than 10% of a paper size). cfa1e77820
